Downpour and Out
Alas, David did not manage to beat Goliath but what a brilliant display of skill, enthusiasm and team spirit Barnsley B team showed in their semi-final clash with Barnsley A. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner in a cup match and on this occasion the A team had the edge and managed a narrow win in the last over.
For the B team, George Tyas took a fantastic catch on the boundary which was the result of a well planned strategy with the bowlers who worked very hard for their successes. The opening batsmen did a great job which was followed by solid batting from the rest of the team. The fielding showed concentration, agility and the ability to try to follow the skill rules which we have worked on all season.
The team tried so hard to gain a place in the cup final and were thwarted in their efforts by the interruption of the rain and some classic cricket shots from the A team batsmen in the final over. However, I doubt the A side will face such determined resistance when they play the ‘crunch match.' We wish them great success in their quest to ‘do the double.'
Monday's match against Wombwell now looms large and it is our most important match of the season. Win this match and we win the league outright. It will not be an easy game, Wombwell are a good side and will want to get their revenge after we beat them at their home ground. This is our glory match as well as our last one as a team, so let's make it a fantastic finish.
