Tied Game Phew!
A last ball scrambled single by Owen Birkett saved our blushes in a tense affair against a poor Woolley team. After last weeks performance against Penistone we were hoping that a more convincing performance would ensue. We decided to field and things were going to plan when Padgett claimed a wicket in his first over. Their batsmen were never in control and excellent bowling from Spin King Collier (2), Padgett(2), Patrick(1) and Maddock(1) saw us keep the homeside down to just 21 runs. Another great diving catch from Hesletine capped a satisfatory performance in the field. Then came the near disaster. Maddock and Patrick, whilst not hitting the ball to all corners of the ground began the innings well putting on 18 for the first wicket without losing a wicket. Three behind. Then began our poorest display of the year. We lost six wickets, some down to indifferent shot making and some down to really poor running. With tougher games to come we must concentrate more and not allow other teams to get on top. Wooley fielded excellently, but in reality their bowling attack shouldnt have caused us the problems they did. Luckily we had Owen and Firey to run that last single. M.O.M Sam Maddock Things, Im sure will get better. In our next match against Wombwell in the cup quarter finals. |
