Barnsley Crush Stainborough.

Barnsley A took another step closer to the the Western League title with a very satisfying performance over Stainborough. Hawley lost the toss but the visitors did us a favour by putting us in to bat.

Maddock and Collier began and were soon taking control. Excellent running and some nice, confident strokes saw 47 put on for the loss of no wicket. Maddock hit a career best 28 n o including 2 sixes and Collier 7 n o.

The next pair of Hawley and Briggs continued the good work. Running between the wicket was sound and quick singles were a plenty with the opposition patrolling the boundary. Again no loss of wicket with Hawley finishing on 14 and Briggs on 8.

A new pairing of Hesletine and Severn were next up. "Steady Eddy" with "Fierey Fred". Probably, their best bowler was dispatched to the boundary in two consecutive balls by Hesletine whos timing was near perfect. Severn also hit a couple of boundaries but his all round batting was at its best tonight. Not one swing and miss was seen. This was swapped for touch and quick running. Hesletine was 18 at the end of his innings and Severn on 15 n o.

The final pairing of Birkett and Padgett kept the score ticking along nicely. this pairing added ten singles as Birkett kept Padgett on his toes.Afew errors with the calling nearly resulted in two run outs, however they again ended undefeated, Birkett finishing on 12 and Padgett on 10.

This was by far our best batting display of the year with everyone contributing to a total of 142. Not to lose a wicket was an outstanding effort. We talked about it before we batted and everyone did brilliantly. Shot selection and cocentration was the key. Against bowling like that there is no reason to get out. WE NEVER.

Stainborough, facing an uphill slog began strongly. Hawley, as usual opened our bowling with Hesletine from the other end. Hawley actually conceded 9 runs for his one wicket which is equal to the the total number of runs conceded in his last three matches. Hesletine conceded 12 runs, however eight of them came from two outside edges.

Severn and Maddock were next to bowl. No wickets for this pairing with Maddock conceding eight runs and Severn bowling excellently in his three over spell conceding just six runs.

Padgett picked up a wicket with his first ball and conceded nine in his two overs . Again Luke was outstanding in the field with another direct hit sending on of their batsman packing.Briggs was as reliable as ever behind the stumps.

Collier bowled a three over spell which included two maidens. Their batsmen didnt know how to play him. Certainly Toms best display of the year so far.

Birkett finished things off well with two wickets in the last two overs and only concedind one run. This bowling together with his steady batting earned him their managers man of the match award.

A great performance but things will get harder as the season progresses. We have to continue doing the right things right.
