Higham hit for Six
A beautiful Sunday morning saw us travel to Higham for a third round cup tie. On a green wicket we put the opposition in to bat and were soon rewarded when Hawley claimed two wickets in his first over. Not to be out done Padgett was on target claiming three wickets in his two over opening spell. This brilliant start from the boys set the tone for the game and our next pair, Maddock and Hesletine kept up the good work. Maddock claiming one for four and Hesletine claiming two, one wicket maidens. Excellent bowling . Totty and an 'under the weather' Severn also bowled well but failed to make any impact on their batsman in their four over spell. It was left to Birkett to complete the bowling supported with extra overs from Padgett and Hesletine. Birkett picked up two wickets for no runs and is now fullfilling the promise shown in the winter nets. Padgett picked up his fourth wicket, brilliantly supported by Hesletine who picked up his third catch of the match whilst fielding at point. This was as good as we have bowled all season. On a slow grass wicket bowling straight and full proved to be the key. Having claimed another eleven wicket haul the match was as good as over but as ever Michael stressed to our batters the importance of getting forward on the front foot and not giving wickets away. Maddock and Patrick gave us a good start as usual. Maddock hit 17 incuding three fours and was helped by Patrick who batted sensibly. Although only scoring one, Harry backed up well, but never gave his wicket away, something which in the latter rounds is going to be vital if we are to continue in this competition.Next in were Hesletine and Totty. Again sensible batting from this pair saw us moving the total on nicely. Hesletine hit nine and Totty seven. Lewis is begginning to bat well, but let himself down with one ambitious swipe which saw his wicket in tatters. Improvement is definitely being shown however. Next pair in was Hawley and Padgett. Hawley hit some nice shots in his fifteen, but lost his wicket twice. One of these, a run out which Im SURE will be his last of the season. Padgett finished off a great all round performance with a steady seven not out. Our last paring saw Birkett and Severn take to the crease. Birkett gaining in confidence with every game hit eleven not out and Severn hit seven again. Hes going to have to change his name to Fifty. We ended up scoring ninety six and won convincingly. Padgett was named man of the match for a great all round display. Well done boys, lets keep it up. Steve and Michael |
